Forced air cooling:
Recently thermal researchers have shown rising interest in synthetic jets, as the small size of these devices accompanied by a high air velocity provides an exciting opportunity to significantly reduce the size of thermal management hardware in electronics. Additionally, the unsteady flow generated by synthetic jets has been proven to provide more effective cooling performance than steady air flow. The research on air cooling has been focused on the cooling and air flow dynamics of multiple synthetic jets cooling large heat sink surfaces.

Passive air cooling:
The heat transfer performance of heat sinks relying on natural convection depends on the mounting orientation. Heat sinks should be designed to minimize the dependence on mounting orientation.
