Thermal Management and Multiphase Flows Laboratory (TMMFL)

The Thermal Management and Multiphase Flows Laboratory (TMMFL) was established in 2011 at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. TMMFL is dedicated to the experimental research of thermal and fluid sciences, and is equipped with a variety of research equipment related to heat transfer and fluid mechanics, which includes High-repetition 3D PIV, Micro-PIV, and High-speed Thermal Photography. One research focus of TMMFL is to address the thermal challenges faced by many electrical or electronic devices and systems and other energy systems. Cooling techniques including forced air cooling, forced liquid cooling, and passive cooling relying on natural convection, conduction, and radiation are investigated. Another research focus is on multiphase flows, which include breakup of liquid jets, instabilities involved in sprays and atomization, bubble dynamics in liquid flow, droplet impact, and impingement of jets and sprays on solid surfaces.
