Professor Sunny Ri Li

Dr. Sunny Li is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. He is a Professional Engineer registered in Canada and an Elected Fellow of Canadian Society for Mecnical Engineering. He received his Master of Applied Science and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Before joining UBC, he was a research scientist at the Global Research Center of General Electric, Schenectady, New York.

Jianxun Huang

PhD candidate

Jianxun obtained his B.Eng. from the Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada). During his bachelor’s study, he actively participated in several research, including passive anti-icing techniques with different surface wettability, decarbonization technologies for marine transportation, and thermal management of EVs battery modules. His research at UBC focuses on investigating bubble formation and departure induce velocity change using particle image velocimetry (PIV) and the effect of surface wettability on flow boiling heat transfer.

 

 

 

Jiedong Ye

Jiedong is a PhD candidate at Wuhan University of Technology and works in heat transfer optimization in battery thermal management system. He has joined Prof. Li’s team as a visiting student. At UBC, his research focuses on improving the heat transfer uniformity.

 

 

 

Hangfei Duan

PhD student

Hangfei Duan received his B.Eng. degree from Shanghai Maritime University and his M.Eng. degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University in China. During his master’s studies, he investigated supercritical CO₂ flow and heat transfer in tubes. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at UBC, where his research focuses on developing compact direct liquid cooling techniques for microchips and other high heat flux devices.

 

 

Haizhi Zhao

Haizhi Zhao completed his bachelor’s degree in the Department of Energy and Power Engineering at Chongqing University and works on evaporative and PCM cooling in Battery Thermal Management Systems. His current research is focused on Humanoid Robot Thermal Management Systems.

 

 

 

 

 

Mohammed Faheem

MASc student

Mohamed Faheem completed his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Power Engineering at Cairo University, where he gained experience in HVAC design, building energy modeling, and thermal systems. His current research focuses on thermal management under transformer overloading conditions and seasonal heat recovery toward improving the efficiency and reliability of power substations.

 

 

 

Dr. Huanguan Wang

Visiting Professor

Dr. Wang is an Associate Professor of Fluid Mechanics at China University of Mining and Technology. He is a visiting professor at UBC. His research focuses on phase change heat transfer, including enhancement of boiling and condensation heat transfer, mechanism exploration of such processes by visualization techniques and molecular dynamics. He received his Master degree in Instrument Science and Technology from Zhejiang University and his PhD degree in Engineering Thermophysics from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
